Nice Guitar !!!
.... a thought that crosses my mind all too often. In twenty plus years of (mediocre) playing and (fanatic) collecting guitars I can say I owned al lot; only to find out that you can find great guitars, old and new. Equally true there are also some pretty run-of-the-mill guitars out there, old and new.... Things like price and collectability often have relatively little to do with it. Of course having more money in principle will give you the opportunity to buy a better guitar. But you have to know where to look, and what to look (and especially to listen) for.
In my opinion, most customshop and limited edition guitars differ surprisingly little from the mass produced counterparts, and are mainly there to serve a wealthier customer. The same goes for vintage guitars. There are GREAT vintage guitars out there, as in times past the costs for labour were cheap, and wood selection was not a problem. Of course an acoustic instrument ages and tends to get better when “played in” but I am not convinced that something magical happens during the ageing of wood or pickups. These older guitars also sounded great when they were brand new (and thus I am totally against the notion of artificially ageing a new guitar).

But in all reality, there are much more old guitars that did not stand the test of time at all. A lot of older and sometimes very expensive guitars from the big name brands do not always play or sound as you would expect from reading biased internet reviews, or from judging the price tag ...
Still in my current obsession of being a jazz guitar nut, I prefer to look for prime examples of the older archtops, for two main reasons. First, although the skills have not gone missing and great guitars are constructed today, old guitars many times have exquisite woods hard to come by today. And second, for me certainly there is also that emotional aspect. I tend to fall for the older instruments as a guitar, but in some respects also as an object of art, to "gain a connection" with that specific era of music I have come to like so much.
I hope you enjoy looking at my collection, and have read the above words as they were meant, just one man's personal fascination, and opinion. And please note this is not a commercial website, the guitars shown are not for sale (unless you have a few kilos of gold bullion to spare).
